Garrett McDonald Dill (AKA Mc. Garrett or Punchy) started his Football Career at the North Village Community Club at the young age of Ten (10) Years old. His first Team experience was playing forNVCC Juniors White U-18 Team under the Legendary Coach Harold Doc Dowling.
At that time in 1966,North Village had only 2 Junior Teams called the Under 18 (U18) Reds and the U-18Whites plus the Premier Division Senior Team in their sports program. Punchy first played for the Whites which was considered the B Team. He played alongside players like his brother Shervin Dill, Richard and Robert Calderon, David Scraders, Henry Armstrong, Cheese Hughes, Bill Smith, Cracks Robinson, Milgrove Romaine, andCornell Castle to name a few.
Punchy was observed to be an outstanding, very talented player from the very first time he started playing football forNVCC. His control of the football and dribbling skills were exceptional at that very young age.At 17 years of age, he made his debut playing for the North Village Senior Team. Again, he was observed asa sensational, entertaining, explosive player from the start of his new SeniorLevel Career introduction.
As a result of his mastery of the game, Punchy was invited to join the Bermuda National Team at age 17 and traveled with the National Squad to the Pan Am and was part of the team that has the distinction of winning the Pan Am Games. He played alongside legendary BermudaPlayers like his brother Cal Dill, Toe Dill, Troy ‘Pinks’ Lewis, Joe Trott, Ralph‘Gumbo’ Bean, and Randy Bean.
Soon after his first season in the Premier Division, he was scouted by university coaches from overseas colleges. He was awarded a full scholarship to play football by the University of Huntsville in Alabama (UAH). Whilst there as a student player he was able to assist them to reach the NCAA Finals for the first time in their history. He was also selected as an All-American Player for all 4 years he was in theUniversity at UAH.
Punchy was a member of the NVCC Premier team that won the Premier Division title for the first time ever in our history in the 1973-74 Season. He was also instrumental and played in the team that won the Triple Crown in the 1977-78 Season. He was called the NVCCMidfield Maestro of NVCC that season.
Once Punchy retired from playingPremier Football he gave back to NVCC by taking on the position of Senior Coach of the Premier team and won FA and Martonmere Cup Championships during his tenure as Head Coach.
Today Garrett McDonald Dill is still very active in the club as a Consultant and Mentor to the President and coaching staff. He holds them to very high standards and his contribution over the years as a player, coach, and mentor to the Club has been Priceless.
Garrett McDonald Dill was inducted into the North Village Community Club's Hall of Fame at our LegendsBall held at Hamilton Princes on the Club's 65th Anniversary, October 22, 2022.
